Third Biennale of Contemporary Art in Tito's Bunker on April 24

The Third Biennale of Contemporary Art "D-0 ARK Underground" begins on April 24, 2015, in Tito's bunker, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Although the Ministry of Defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina handed over this facility as non-perspective military property to the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina on February 10, there is still no official stance on who will use this impressive facility and for what purpose.

We recall that the Biennale of Contemporary Art has already been held twice in Konjic, the first in 2011 under the patronage of Montenegro and Serbia, and the second in 2013 organized by Turkey and Croatia. That year, then-President Ivo Josipović visited the Biennale and emphasized the importance of this facility and this event.

This year, the patron countries will be Albania and Austria.

The head of the Biennale, Edo Hozić, said in 2013 that this unique museum has great value and that it is perhaps the most expensive museum in the world.

- We have all the prerequisites for this space to become a major European gallery after this cycle - Hozić said.

Incidentally, the public learned more information about Tito's bunker or ARK (Alternative War Command) in 2000, and this well-kept secret served as an unusual concept for art 300 meters underground.

It was built with the intention of functioning as a center for military operations and a shelter for Tito, his family, and his closest associates in the event of a nuclear war. With more than a hundred rooms and completely preserved inventory (consisting of numerous residential spaces, conference halls, offices, and the "presidential block"), it was supposed to ensure the uninterrupted life of 350 people for six months. Between 1953 and 1979, 4.6 billion US dollars were invested in its construction, and the existence of this bunker was a strictly guarded military secret.
