Trebević Cable Car Could Be Completed by April 6, 2017

The executive project for the construction of the Trebević cable car has been finalized and will be submitted to the Stari Grad Municipality, which will then issue a building permit, writes the Bosnian news agency Patria. Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić said that based on the project submitted by the City of Sarajevo, the permit can be issued within 24 hours, and that everyone aims for the fastest possible construction of the cable car.

At today's session of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the cable car construction project was discussed, and as Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo Abdulah Skaka explained, it concerns donated equipment located at the base in Butmir.

- We asked the Council of Ministers to exempt us from fees when taking over the equipment, based on the agreement signed with the Swiss Government - Skaka told NAP.

He clarified that the equipment was donated six years ago and they will see what can be used. The contractor will be the Italian company Leitner, which won the announced tender.

The starting and ending stations at Bistrik and Trebević, as well as the devastated Vidikovac restaurant building, have been demolished. The Stari Grad Municipality has issued a usage permit for 25 years.

When asked when the completion of construction could be expected, Skaka said that a tentative date is April 6, 2017, the Day of the City of Sarajevo.

- Everything also depends on the weather; we are already entering September. Maybe it's a bit too ambitious, but we will see - Skaka said.

The main donor for the construction of the Trebević cable car is Dr. Edmond Offermann, who visited Sarajevo this month. Together with his wife, he donated 7.5 million KM. Part of the necessary funds was also secured by the City of Sarajevo, and 500,000 KM for the construction of the cable car from the sale of the dilapidated Feroelektra building in the center of Sarajevo will be paid by the Stari Grad Municipality.

The citizens of Sarajevo, as well as numerous tourists visiting the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, eagerly await the completion of the cable car, which was destroyed during the siege of Sarajevo. The ride to Trebević should take eight minutes.
