Do You Need a Power of Attorney if Traveling to the Coast with a Borrowed Vehicle?

If you are traveling to Croatia with a vehicle borrowed from a friend or relative, BIHAMK will advise you to get a power of attorney. It costs 25 KM at BIHAMK branches.

The BiH Border Police say that a power of attorney is not necessary. It is important to have valid regular documents, a registration certificate, and a green card.

Several readers of the Patria News Agency have complained that BIHAMK advised them that they needed a power of attorney if they were traveling to Croatia with a borrowed vehicle. BIHAMK confirmed to Patria that they advise drivers to have a power of attorney. This is the only way they can prove that they have not stolen the vehicle.

These permits are issued most frequently during the summer season when tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina travel to the coast.

The BiH Border Police told Patria that they are aware of the discrepancies. Drivers often show border police a power of attorney, but this document is not required.
