Tragic end: Rescuers find bodies of six skiers buried by avalanche

Six skiers who went missing on Saturday in an avalanche in the Alps in southeastern France have been found dead, rescuers announced on Sunday, reports the Patria news agency.

Six experienced skiers, four men and two women of French nationality, aged 50 to 70, went skiing on Saturday morning and were swept away by an avalanche, the prefecture of the Hautes-Alpes department announced.

The accident occurred on the Queyras massif, near the town of Ceillac. The first three bodies were found during the night, and the remaining three four hours later.

- When they left, the sky was clear, and the avalanche risk was level 3 out of 5, authorities stated.

At least 11 people have died in avalanches in France since the start of winter, according to official data. Avalanches in France kill about thirty people each year.
