SNOW MELTING Heavy rainfall arrives in Bosnia and Herzegovina, flash floods possible

(Patria) - Bosnia and Herzegovina will be hit by heavy rainfall from Sunday morning until the night of Monday, January 26.

Local flash floods are possible, according to the weather forecast published on the BH Meteo Facebook page.

They add that Sunday will bring cloudy weather with precipitation and mostly windy conditions. Rain and showers will first affect Herzegovina, southwestern, western, northwestern, and parts of central Bosnia during the morning and forenoon hours of Sunday.

"Later in the afternoon and evening, rain will gradually spread from the west to the rest of the country. It will arrive latest in eastern Bosnia, in the evening hours of Sunday. Showers may be accompanied by local thunder. Moderate to heavy precipitation in most of the country. Least precipitation in parts of northern and northeastern Bosnia. Most precipitation in Herzegovina, southwestern, western, southeastern, and central parts of Bosnia, where an average of 30 to 50 mm is expected, locally up to 80 mm in Herzegovina and southwestern Bosnia. Heavier precipitation over a relatively short period and snowmelt will lead to a sudden rise in river levels, with local flash floods possible. Relevant services (FHMZ, RHMZRS) and agencies are also warning about this.

On Sunday, a moderate to gusty strong south wind will blow in most of the country. Stormy gusts are possible in the mountains. Weaker wind in northern parts of Bosnia. Sunday morning temperature from 1 to 6, in the south up to 12 °C. Daytime temperature from 4 to 10, locally in southern Herzegovina up to 13, and in northeastern Bosnia possibly up to 15 °C.

Coldest tomorrow in the west of Krajina due to an influx of somewhat colder air. In the evening hours of Sunday and during the night into Monday (January 26), a gradual weakening and cessation of precipitation in most places. Only rare light precipitation will remain.

Snowfall on Sunday mainly above 1700 m above sea level, in the evening hours the snow line at around 1500 m above sea level.

At the beginning of next week, more dry weather, occasional light precipitation only rarely possible. On Tuesday (January 27), there will be transient sunny weather. From Tuesday evening, new cloud cover from the west, and on Wednesday (January 28), new precipitation. It remains mostly above-average warm, with a brief cooling on Tuesday", states BH Meteo.
