SARAJEVO, (Patria) - During its first plenary session in 2020, the European Parliament called for raising the bar for climate goals and putting citizens at the center of the debate on EU reforms.

Parliament supported the EU's plan to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 on Wednesday and called for greater emission reductions (55 percent) by 2030. The day before, they discussed a proposal on financing the transition to a green economy, including support for the most affected regions.

Citizens should be at the center of discussions on EU reform, MEPs said in a resolution on Wednesday explaining their vision for the Conference on the Future of Europe.

 

On the same day, MEPs adopted a resolution calling for the protection of citizens' rights after Brexit.

Ahead of the UN Biodiversity Conference, MEPs are calling for the setting of binding targets at the global and EU level to halt biodiversity loss.

In the past week, MEPs also discussed measures to reduce the gender pay gap.

Voting is at the end of the month.

MEPs discussed the situation in Iran following recent rising tensions, and Jordanian King Abdullah II emphasized the importance of peace in the Middle East during his address to MEPs.

The Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, presented the priorities of the Croatian Presidency of the Council on Wednesday.

Parliament adopted a resolution criticizing the deterioration of the rule of law in Poland and Hungary.
