The Competition Council of BiH has given the green light for the sale of Mercator to the Croatian company Agrokor, it has been confirmed by this institution, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP). The Council made the decision on 10.6.2014, when the 92nd session of the Competition Council of BiH was held.
- The concentration of the economic entity Agrokor d.d. and the economic entity Poslovni sistem Mercator d.d. is considered permissible - it is stated in the position of the Competition Council of BiH.
The Competition Council, as stated, received on June 28, 2013, the Notification of Concentration of the economic entity Agrokor d.d. Zagreb, Republic of Croatia, "which intends to acquire control over the economic entity Poslovni sistem Mercator d.d. Ljubljana, by purchasing 53.12% of shares."
The purchase of Mercator, which also owns the retail chain "DP Marketi" in BiH, is the largest retail transaction in the region, and many have expressed concerns that Agrokor owner Ivica Todorić will thereby gain a monopoly on the entire market, given that he already owns the "Konzum" chain of stores, reports NAP.
