TK: Fifth victim dies from complications caused by flu

TUZLA, (Patria) - An elderly woman has died from the consequences of seasonal flu at the University Clinical Centre (UKC) Tuzla, confirmed by the Ministry of Health of Tuzla Canton. This is the fifth victim who has died from complications caused by the flu in the past ten days. The deceased had several illnesses which, combined with the flu, led to a fatal outcome.

As confirmed last week, one person died from the H1N1 virus (swine flu), while in the other victims, type A and B viruses were identified.

According to Prof. Dr. Sead Ahmetagić, head of the Infectious Diseases Clinic at UKC Tuzla, around 15 patients are currently being treated at the University Clinical Centre, and the H1N1 virus has been isolated in five of them.

Prof. Dr. Ahmetagić explained that the H1N1 virus is characterized by a high fever that can exceed 40 degrees Celsius, extremely severe headache, and intense pain in the arms and legs. He warned that patients who experience symptoms such as chest pain, rapid or difficult breathing, shortness of breath, intense headache, or vomiting must see a doctor.

The director of the Institute for Public Health, Assoc. Dr. Maida Mulić, emphasized that the overall epidemiological situation in this canton is uncertain and that recommendations have been issued to prevent the spread of this disease, but for now there is no reason to suspend work in schools and kindergartens, and the situation will be monitored while taking all necessary precautionary measures.
