Body of deceased mountaineer transferred to Jablanica

(Patria) - With the help of a helicopter of the Armed Forces of BiH, the body of the deceased mountaineer R.Š. was evacuated this morning from the accident site near Cetina peak on Prenj to Jablanica.

In the accident that occurred yesterday morning due to an avalanche under Cetina peak on Prenj, alpinist R.Š. died, and his colleague A.A. was slightly injured. He found R.Š.'s body and called for help. The operation to reach this extremely inaccessible area by GSS teams to retrieve the body of the deceased mountaineer lasted all day. The helicopter that arrived at the location yesterday could not help due to extremely strong winds and had to return.

"Under extremely difficult weather conditions with strong bura winds and temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius, members of the mountain rescue service prepared the body for evacuation and transported it to a location suitable for helicopter extraction. On this occasion, we highlight the exceptional expertise and dedication of the helicopter crew of the Armed Forces of BiH," stated the GSS in BiH.

The deceased R.Š. held the rank of lieutenant in the BiH Armed Forces and served in the 5th Logistics Support Battalion of the Logistics Command of the BiH Armed Forces, and was not on duty at the time of the accident.
