Weather fluctuations, particularly pronounced at the end of last year and the beginning of this one, have contributed to an increase in the number of people suffering from viruses, colds, and flu, writes the BH News Agency Patria.
However, the number of sick people has not increased drastically compared to previous years. As Jelena Ravlija, the chief federal epidemiologist, stated, there is still low flu activity, with a gradual increase in the number of patients.
According to her, the virus circulation season can last until April.
In recent days, health centres have seen an increased number of patients who, even after seven days, still have flu symptoms.
- Uncomplicated flu generally lasts up to 7 days – Ravlija explains.
Lately, pneumonia has been common, but patients only go to the doctor when they realize their cough has lasted for more than 15 days.
- Pneumonia is not subject to mandatory reporting, but according to information from the field, there has been an increase in doctor's visits with suspected/confirmed pneumonia – says Ravlija.
In any case, doctors recommend avoiding large indoor gatherings if possible, dressing according to the weather, consuming fluids (lukewarm tea, lemonade, soups), and eating more fruits and vegetables.
