Did You Just Get Your Biometric Passport? A New, Even More Modern BiH Passport is Coming Soon!

Bosnia and Herzegovina is ready to start issuing the most modern third-generation biometric passports no later than October 1, 2014, which is 2 months before the deadline set for EU member states, according to the Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data Exchange of BiH (IDDEEA), reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Namely, all EU member states are obliged to introduce the third generation of biometric passports (so-called SAC passports) by the end of this year. Countries that have a visa-free regime with the EU, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, must also introduce the third generation of passports.

- An international ICAO conference was held in Madrid where the third-generation passports were tested. Among the total of 18 countries that performed the testing, the only non-EU countries present at the testing were: Japan, Australia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina – states IDDEEA.

Based on the test results, it was determined that BiH can be ready as early as October this year. They remind that BiH introduced the second generation of passports (so-called EAC) on time, which showed that technically sustainable development of the document system in BiH has been established, reports NAP.
