Tegeltija: Dragičević and Memić cases have stalled

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Milan Tegeltija, President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, confirmed that he will hold a meeting on Wednesday with the European Union's legal expert and judge, Reinhard Priebe, while appearing on Face TV's Centralni dnevnik. Judge Priebe's visit was announced by European Commissioner Johannes Hahn during a meeting with the mother and father of the murdered youths, David Dragičević and Dženan Memić.

When asked by Senad Hadžifejzović if he felt uncomfortable about the visit, Tegeltija said he did not and that expert assistance is always welcome.

“We have intensive contacts with both the EU Delegation in Sarajevo and Brussels regarding the improvement of the judiciary. We are now entering an implementation phase. Mr. Reinhard is coming precisely for this implementation phase. We are aligning standards with the EU. The main partner of the HJPC is the European Commission. All our bylaws, all these measures, have been taken in close connection with the European Commission. This cooperation of ours is nothing new,” said Tegeltija.

He stated that he does not know the reasons for Priebe's visit or his mission. When asked who killed David and Dženan, Tegeltija said he did not know.

“As a citizen and as the President of the HJPC, I am interested in these investigations being brought to a conclusion. Asking me who killed David and Dženan goes beyond what I am allowed to say. The HJPC cannot do anything regarding the investigation conducted by the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Banja Luka in the case of David Dragičević. The Republican and Federal Prosecutor's Offices are reviewing the work of lower prosecutor's offices,” said Tegeltija.

Tegeltija stated that the HJPC is not satisfied with the work of the prosecutor's offices when it comes to corruption and organized crime.

The President of the HJPC said that the Dragičević and Memić cases have “stalled,” meaning they have no epilogue and the murderers cannot be identified.
