Tanja Fajon: July 11 must be a reminder that genocide must never be repeated against anyone

Tanja Fajon, a delegate in the European Parliament, told the Bosnian news agency Patria that every year she is in thought with the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.

This July 11, she sends a message to politicians in BiH, as well as to politicians in the European Union, that everyone must work together in the fight for a better future, and that July 11 must never be repeated for anyone.

- Bosnia and Herzegovina must move forward towards reforms, towards the European Union and towards the erasing of borders. We must work together and strive for all of us to live in harmony, in prosperity where human rights are respected – Fajon stated.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution declaring July 11 in Europe as the Day of Remembrance for the Srebrenica genocide. Fajon says she is sure that today many European politicians will be, at least in thought, with the victims in Srebrenica. For her, it is important that this day serves as a reminder to everyone „that we must work hard so that similar things do not happen again“.

- The elections for the European Parliament are behind us, and now the most important thing is to form a large pro-European force that will work on helping all countries in the Western Balkans, to work together and unitedly and to move towards the enlargement process – says Fajon.

When asked by a Patria journalist whether the larger number of seats now held by right-wing parties in the European Parliament could pose a danger to the peace she speaks of, Fajon says she expects that nationalist rhetoric will now be more pronounced in the European Parliament, but if those who believe in human rights work together, freedom will not be threatened.
