Typhoon in China kills nine people, three missing

After passing Taiwan, typhoon Souledor killed nine people in the eastern Chinese province of Zhejiang, and three more are considered missing, Chinese authorities announced on Sunday, reports the Patria news agency.

The typhoon hit the Chinese mainland late on Saturday in the southeastern province of Fujian and continued to rage through the neighboring provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi. The storm caused landslides in rural parts of the city of Wenzhou in Zhejiang province, Xinhua reported.

The dead and missing were swept away by floods or died in the collapse of houses, the agencies added. Winds reached speeds of 173 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon killed six people in Taiwan, and four are considered missing. At least 379 people were injured. About four million households were left without electricity, Hina reports.
