Typhoon: 400,000 Japanese urged to evacuate, two dead

Typhoon Nangka, which battered the west coast of Japan's largest island on Friday, has claimed at least two lives and paralyzed transport, and authorities have since Thursday urged 400,000 residents to evacuate due to the risk of floods, torrents and landslides, reports the Patria news agency. 

Rivers burst their banks in the western Wakayama prefecture after more than 60 liters of rain per square meter fell on the western parts of Honshu island since the storm began on Thursday. Two men drowned and dozens were injured. Numerous flights were canceled, some trains were delayed or suspended, and highways in the coastal belt were closed.

Nangka is expected to bring another 30 liters of rain per square meter in the coming hours.
