Tahirović on the indictment for crimes in Biljani: Without prosecuting the masterminds, there is no full justice

(Patria) - The indictment against six individuals for crimes against humanity committed in Biljani near Ključ is a positive step, but without prosecuting command responsibility, such cases remain unfinished, warns the president of the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide, Murat Tahirović.

- It is certainly good that indictments are being filed, especially when it comes to mass crimes like the crimes in Biljani. However, these are so-called New Year's indictments, and I fear that they often do not have a good epilogue in the later period - Tahirović told Preporod.

He pointed out that in war crimes cases, including Biljani and the wider area of Bosanska Krajina, those who planned and supervised the crimes are still being avoided.

- What is missing in any case is command responsibility, because someone supervised all of this, someone ordered all of this, and that part is missing when it comes to Biljani and Bosanska Krajina.

Somehow, such responsibility is being avoided. I hope that the Prosecutor's Office will file indictments in the coming period for those responsible for the mass murders in the school in Biljani under command responsibility - Tahirović added.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office has filed an indictment against six individuals for crimes against humanity committed on July 10, 1992, in the villages of Gornji and Donji Biljani, in the municipality of Ključ.

The accused are Braco Marić, Dragan Vukić aka Rosin, Ranko Samardžija, Savo Jokić, Mišo Adamović, and Milorad Kaurin aka Karlo.

They are accused of unlawfully detaining Bosniak civilians, mostly men, in the school building in Donji Biljani during a military-police operation of the Army of Republika Srpska.

According to the indictment, the prisoners were then taken out of the school individually or in smaller groups and transported to nearby locations where they were killed, and their bodies were removed after the crime.

The mortal remains of the victims were found and exhumed after the war.

The BiH Prosecutor's Office announced that the accused are charged with the killing of dozens of civilians and inhumane treatment of unlawfully detained persons, thereby committing the criminal offense of crimes against humanity under Article 172 of the Criminal Code of BiH.
