The Bosnia and Herzegovina handball team has qualified for the World Handball Championship to be held next year in Qatar, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
The players of coach Dragan Marković drew 29:29 in the second playoff match against the favored Iceland.
The handball Dragons played one of their toughest matches today in the capital of Iceland. After a 33:32 victory for our team a few days ago in Sarajevo, even a draw today in Reykjavik was enough for our boys to qualify for the World Cup. Just like the football Dragons, who are playing against Argentina tonight at Brazil's Maracanã, this is also the first time in the history of the BiH handball team that they have qualified for a world championship.
After the match ended, the capital of BiH went wild. Fireworks were set off as if it were New Year's Eve. Among the first to congratulate the handball players was Enid Tahirović, the former national team goalkeeper.
- I am indescribably happy to know these guys. Have a great time tonight, and see you tomorrow. Hats off, boys – said Tahirović, writes Patria.
