Tadić promised Brammertz faster work on war crimes cases

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Chief Prosecutors of the ICTY and the BiH Prosecutor's Office, Serge Brammertz and Gordana Tadić, discussed the improvement of work on war crimes cases, as well as the continuation and development of further successful cooperation and support that the ICTY Prosecutor's Office provides to the BiH Prosecutor's Office, via video conference between Sarajevo and The Hague.

Chief Prosecutor Gordana Tadić, along with officials from the Special Department for War Crimes, informed Chief Prosecutor Brammertz about activities in processing war crimes cases, the significance of the ICTY Prosecutor's Office's contribution to this process, regional cooperation, particularly in Category 2 cases referred from the ICTY, and other important issues within the scope of cooperation between the two institutions.

Chief Prosecutors Brammertz and Tadić jointly emphasized the importance of adopting a State Strategy for processing war crimes cases, which will help accelerate the pace of case processing in the coming period, at all judicial levels in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Chief Prosecutor Tadić and Chief Prosecutor Brammertz discussed the Report of Judge Joanna Korner and the recommendations made for improving the processing of war crimes cases in Bosnia and Herzegovina at the state level.

The Chief Prosecutor emphasized that, despite the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, which slowed down and complicated work on war crimes cases, as well as exhumation cases, prosecutors and staff of the Special Department for War Crimes will continue intensive activities and make additional efforts to achieve the best possible results in this area by the end of the year.

The Chief Prosecutors expressed readiness to continue cooperation in order to more quickly and effectively process war crimes and find missing persons in the coming period.
