Thaci: New international momentum created to resolve open issues in the Western Balkans

(Patria) - The main goal in 2019 is to reach a peaceful agreement with Serbia, which will lead to Kosovo's recognition and membership in the United Nations (UN), said Kosovo President Hashim Thaci for the newspaper “Epoka e Re.“

Thaci believes that new international momentum has been created to resolve open issues between the Western Balkan countries, recalling that the Prespa Agreement was reached in 2018, which after two decades brought a solution to the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece, and that the focus is now on a peace agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.

When asked whether the north of Kosovo would gain some form of autonomy after the signing of the agreement, the President of Kosovo said that any formula that violates the statehood and stability of Kosovo, such as the community of Serbian municipalities with executive powers, is not a solution in the interest of Kosovo or peace in the region.
