Testimony of expert witness and closing arguments conclude the trial in the Memić case today

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - At the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo on Friday, a hearing will be held at 10 AM in the case of Dženan Memić, where a medical expert will present their part of the findings in the repeated traffic accident reconstruction. After the examination of the expert, closing arguments will follow from the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office and the defense of Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović, represented by attorney Rusmir Karkin.

Closing arguments will also be presented by the father of the deceased Dženan Memić, Muriz Memić. This will conclude the repeated court proceedings. In the first-instance proceedings, Ljubo and Bekrija Seferović were acquitted.

We remind that the findings of the second and third traffic accident reconstructions stated that there were no parameters indicating a traffic accident, and that Dženan Memić did not have typical injuries that occur when a vehicle strikes a pedestrian.

The young man sustained injuries under still unexplained circumstances on the night of February 8, 2016, while in the company of his girlfriend Alisa Murap. Memić died on February 15, 2016. The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office changed the legal qualification of the act twice, from a traffic accident to murder by an unknown perpetrator, and then back to a traffic accident. The then Chief Cantonal Prosecutor Dalida Burzić stated that the "Prosecutor's Office had strayed in the legal qualification" and that it was a traffic accident. Precisely because of statements about the case pending before the court and inappropriate contacts with the father of the deceased young man, Muriz Memić, in February 2019, disciplinary proceedings were initiated against her. At the same time, she was appointed as a judge of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and no disciplinary measures were imposed against her.

Based on a criminal complaint filed by the Memić family in October 2018, the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into organized crime, which involved several individuals.

Muriz Memić has claimed from the very beginning that Burzić filed a false indictment, and he requested the new Chief Cantonal Prosecutor Sabina Sarajlija to withdraw the indictment for a traffic accident.
