World outraged by small fine for Bosnian hunters who killed a lynx

More than 2,000 people worldwide have signed a petition launched on thepetitionsite.com website demanding the prosecution and punishment of Bosnian hunters who, almost two months ago, killed a lynx and posted a photo of it on Facebook. This morning, world media reported that BiH is a country of paradoxes, as the hunters received only a monetary fine without losing their hunting rights, reports the Patria News Agency.

We remind you that two hunters from Fojnica, Hamdija Zahirović and Edin Pugonja, killed a lynx in the area below Vrtača mountain, which is on the Red List of endangered species.

The text carried by foreign media states that people are outraged and that the killing of the lynx has drawn condemnation from the international community, as well as representatives from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), which is active in the conservation of tropical rainforests, the most remote parts of the planet, and the world's most endangered species, as well as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), whose mission is environmental development.

- These organizations have publicly expressed concern over the death of an endangered and protected lynx. We are particularly concerned that some media outlets have characterized this act as something positive in their publications, stating that this is one of the 130 remaining lynxes in BiH – the text reads.

It is further stated that there was a possibility that the hunters would go to jail for a year, for which 2,081 people signed the petition.

- The hunters who killed the protected lynx were prosecuted and fined 2,000 euros. However, there was no mention of jail time, nor was their hunting license revoked. So much for the Bosnian authorities; if you have 2,000 euros in BiH, you can even hunt a lynx – the text carried by the website “greenfudge“ adds, writes NAP.
