Swiss Support the Work of the Central Bank of BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The newly appointed Ambassador of Switzerland, H.E. Daniel Hunn, visited the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH) today. The Governor of the CBBH, Dr. Senad Softić, received him for an introductory visit, expressing gratitude for Switzerland's efforts in the economic and social development of BiH, and emphasizing that the CBBH has been building exceptionally high-quality relations with the Swiss government and its financial institutions for years.

Ambassador Hunn pointed out that the CBBH has already begun implementing and utilizing technical assistance in 2021, making it the most successful central bank recipient of technical assistance within the BCC program.

Within the framework of Switzerland's partnership and support strategy for Bosnia and Herzegovina, exceptionally successful cooperation with the CBBH is underway, particularly through the Bilateral Assistance and Capacity Building Program for Central Banks (BCC), which is being implemented in close consultation with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. During 2020, this cooperation took place in a virtual format, through intensive consultations and educational activities, in line with the CBBH's needs.

Following the successful completion of the first phase of the Program in 2014-2017, the second phase, i.e., the continuation of the program until 2022, is currently underway. Areas of support include monetary policy, specifically research and improvement of foreign exchange reserve management processes, statistics, human resource management, and the operational risk framework, including the enhancement of business continuity plans.

 “I greatly appreciate the swift response and support from SECO during these challenging times. Thanks to the dedication of the Swiss partner and the intensive efforts of the CBBH staff, the project continues uninterrupted,” concluded Governor Softić. On this occasion, the Governor informed Ambassador Hunn about the latest macroeconomic indicators for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the activities undertaken by the CBBH during the pandemic to preserve monetary and financial system stability.

During the talks, Ambassador Hunn emphasized his country's commitment to continuing cooperation within the framework of Switzerland's partnership and support strategy for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
