Svetozar Kosorić Indicted for Genocide in Srebrenica

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina has filed an indictment against Svetozar Kosorić for genocide committed in Srebrenica in July 1995.

The Prosecutor's Office of BiH announced that the Prosecutor of the Special Department for War Crimes of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH filed an indictment against Svetozar Kosorić, born on 22 May 1953 in the village of Kusače, Han Pijesak municipality, permanently residing in Belgrade, Serbia, a citizen of BiH.

The accused is charged with, in his capacity as Chief of the Intelligence and Security Department and as a member of the Drina Corps Command of the VRS, knowingly assisting participants in the execution of a common goal, a joint criminal enterprise, in which high-ranking military officers and police officials of the VRS participated from 11 to 19 July 1995, acting in accordance with the plan and intention of the VRS to partially exterminate a group of Bosniak people from the Srebrenica enclave through killing, forced displacement of group members, and inflicting serious physical and mental injuries.

The indictment states that Kosorić, acting on orders, instructions, and guidelines from the Main Staff of the VRS, participating in meetings where decisions were made to separate men aged 16 to 60 from their families, who were to be temporarily detained and then killed, and women and children removed from the area of the Srebrenica safe zone, found locations for the temporary detention of captured Bosniak men separated from their families, as well as execution sites, and participated in organizing the transport of the civilian population, leading a large convoy of buses and trucks carrying women and children towards territory under the control of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The indictment has been forwarded for confirmation to the Court of BiH.
