Svetlana Cenić: Ready for a Caliphate!

BiH, (Patria) – The statement by the President of HDZ BiH and member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Čović, that a civic state in BiH essentially means an Islamic state, has caused sharp reactions in the Bosnian public.

“I respect those who want a civic state. However, today in BiH, saying civic state means classic unitarism, in some form, a theoretical form, it essentially means an Islamic state,” Čović told reporters during his visit to Zagreb yesterday.

The Vice-President of SDP BiH Lana Prlić says that SDP advocates for a civic state that will be decentralized, but not on the basis of ethnic divisions. “Civic values are actually European values, and we are actually bearers of such values,” Prlić told the Patria news agency.

The statement by Čović was also condemned by the president of the Croatian Party of BiH Božo Skopljaković. “With such statements and efforts, the ruling elite wants to shake the trust among citizens, all with the aim of maintaining the status quo so that they continue to remain untouchable,” believes the president of HS BiH. 

There were also reactions on social networks, ranging from humorous to serious ones that consider Čović’s message dangerous and fascist.

“Ready for a caliphate,” wrote economist Svetlana Cenić on her Twitter profile, along with a photo from a mosque.

“Civic BiH is Islamic BiH – it seems that Čović has been possessed by Dodik’s spirit,” wrote Banja Luka psychologist and blogger Srđan Puhalo.

“According to Čović’s logic, a civic state equals an Islamic state. So it turns out that the Civic Football Club Dinamo is the Islamic Football Club Dinamo…” writes blogger Adis Nadarević, reports Patria.
