Building Opened in Baruthana: Finally in Their Homes After 25 Years

A building with 11 apartments for internally displaced families was officially opened in the Baruthana settlement today. The apartments, ranging from 40 to 50 square meters, are modernly furnished. The families are expected to move in next month, writes the BH News Agency Patria.

Vildana Jaskić, after 25 years of "displacement" in private and alternative accommodations, finally saw the day of moving into her apartment with tears in her eyes.

- I lived and grew up here. In place of the current building, there were eight barracks. A grenade fell from Borija and I was left on the street with three children. I will live alone, my son is married, my daughter is married, and my younger son will live alone - says Jaskić.

The Mayor of the Old Town Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, said he was happy to wish the beneficiaries a happy move-in and that this is the third building for internally displaced persons in the last eight years. The value of the project is 680,000 KM.

- With this today, we have completed the process for all internally displaced persons from the Old Town Municipality. Besides Baruthana, buildings have been constructed in Brusulje and Čadordžina.

Suzana Jašarević, Director of Hilfswerk Austria International, said she is happy that the project has been completed after almost four years.

- The whole story began in 2012 in cooperation with the Old Town Municipality and Mayor Hadžibajrić, and the Ministry of Labour, Social Policy and Displaced Persons and Refugees of KS - says Jašarević.

Hilfswerk Austria International allocated 10,000 KM for this project, the Old Town Municipality allocated 440,000 KM, and the Ministry allocated 185,000 KM.
