
(Patria) - The building of the Faculty of Health Sciences was officially opened in Sarajevo today.
The capital project "Reconstruction, investment maintenance and equipping of the Faculty of Health Sciences building of the University of Sarajevo" from the Public Investment Program of Sarajevo Canton began on November 19, 2020, by the Decision of the Management Board which approved the conclusion of the Agreement between the United Nations Development Programme and the Faculty of Health Sciences for the purpose of implementing the Project for the adaptation and improvement of the energy efficiency of the allocated facility.
Accordingly, on December 11, 2020, an Agreement was signed, initiating the process of implementing the Project for the Reconstruction, investment maintenance and equipping of the Faculty of Health Sciences building of the University of Sarajevo.
The total value of the project excluding equipment is 6,394,014.00 BAM, and the project was financed primarily by loan funds of Sarajevo Canton in the amount of 3,989,000.00 BAM and own funds of the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Health Sciences in the amount of 2,000,000.00 BAM, with the remaining part financed by the United Nations Development Programme.
The Faculty building has a total area of 4,108 m2 and is divided into two interconnected units, Building A and Building B. Building A houses the Institute for Health Development, functionally intended for providing health services, conducting practical classes and scientific research.
It consists of a physical therapy office, a kinesitherapy office, a health care office, a midwifery office, space for MRI and CT, a nutrition counseling office, and three laboratories: biochemical, microbiological, and food and water control laboratory.
Building B is intended for theoretical teaching. The teaching part consists of nine classrooms, a large amphitheater, a congress hall, and other premises intended for students (library, reading room, student relaxation area, student services, archive, etc.).
All premises are built according to European standards. In terms of technical specifications, it is a facility that is fully adapted for persons with disabilities, has two ramps and a toilet for disabled persons on each floor, a heating-cooling system based on a heat pump, alternative heating is a gas boiler room, a modern ventilation system, an electrical system based on constant voltage, and its own generator.
Therefore, it has been classified as an A-category building in terms of energy efficiency. The conceptual design for a 23 kW solar power plant to be installed on the roof of Building B has been completed.
Regarding equipment, since 2018, the Faculty has invested 698,836 BAM from its own funds, projects, and donations, and the value of the equipment increased last year by 200,000 BAM provided by donations from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Bingo Group, and two municipalities: Novi Grad Municipality and Stari Grad Municipality. In addition, the Faculty received donations from Diamedica doo, DM, non-governmental organizations, and individuals.
The opening was attended by the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, the President of the Management Board of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Murat Ramadanović, Vice-Rectors of the University, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Arzija Pašalić, the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Adna Mesihović, the Minister of Health of Sarajevo Canton, Enis Hasanović, the Minister of Finance of Sarajevo Canton, Afan Kalamujić, the Mayors of Sarajevo municipalities, the Deputy Speaker of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, Danijela Kristić, Members of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, Deans and Directors of the constituent members of the University of Sarajevo, representatives of international organizations UNDP, TIKA, WHO, businessmen, employees, and students of the Faculty.
This building is a true indicator of commitment to the idea of creating higher quality education and a better future for young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, the building of the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Health Sciences has been opened to the honor and pride of the University of Sarajevo, Sarajevo Canton, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, symbolically on the eve of the Independence Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
