Ceremonial session of Ilidža Municipal Council: March 1st one of the most significant dates in BiH history

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - On the occasion of March 1st, BiH Independence Day, a ceremonial session of the Ilidža Municipal Council was held on February 27th. The commemoration began with a traditional visit to the central memorial and laying of flowers. Numerous delegations paid their respects by reciting Fatiha and observing a minute of silence for the fallen defenders of Ilidža.

The ceremonial session was addressed by the President of the Municipal Council Muhamed Omerović and the Mayor of Ilidža Municipality, Prof. Dr. Senaid Memić. In his address, Mayor Memić emphasized that March 1st is one of the most significant dates in the recent history of BiH, and that it is the birthday of our country, the day when the citizens of BiH declared that they wanted to live in a sovereign, independent, and integral BiH.

- The citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are all equal, and we should all love our country, because we have no other. Let's build our homeland through work, because only then can we contribute to being part of Europe, and we are. We must look to the future, because our children deserve much more than threats that Bosnia and Herzegovina will not exist. We must fight to strengthen our homeland in the spirit of equality of all its citizens - stated Mayor Memić.

- 26 years ago, on this day, the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina went to a referendum on self-determination and, by majority will, decided that our country would renew its independence and sovereignty. The wealth we possess and the strength of our perseverance and determination are the foundations on which we will develop in the coming years as an economically successful and socially just state. Special respect is deserved by the families of martyrs and fallen soldiers who gave their lives for the defense of the homeland, and all defenders. They defended a multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina which is both Bosnian, Serbian, and Croatian - said Muhamed Omerović in his speech.

A suitable program was performed by elementary school students from the Ilidža municipality.
