Ceremonial Inauguration of New University of Sarajevo Rector Tarik Zaimović at the Vijećnica

(Patria) - The ceremonial inauguration of the University of Sarajevo rector for the 2024–2028 term, Tarik Zaimović, will be held today at Sarajevo's Vijećnica starting at 12:00 PM. Zaimović is the 20th rector in the 75-year history of UNSA.

According to the ceremony program, the closing speech will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, who served as rector of the University of Sarajevo for two terms, 2016–2020 and 2020–2024.

Guests will also be addressed by Imran Pašalić, president of the Student Parliament of the University of Sarajevo.

This will be followed by the inaugural speech of Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, rector of the University of Sarajevo for the 2024–2028 term.

A special musical program has been prepared, performed by the Choir of the Catholic Faculty of Theology and a trio from the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo.

The UNSA Senate held a session yesterday at which it concluded that the Senate stands by its decision on the election of rector Tarik Zaimović, and that this position will be submitted to the founder, the Sarajevo Canton, i.e., the Government of the Sarajevo Canton and the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton, after the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs on September 2 submitted a decision to UNSA ordering the rector to annul the election of the rector as well as the competition itself.

Škrijelj said at yesterday's press conference that the attack on the autonomy of the University must be stopped, and that an appeal will be filed with the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton against the decision of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs. It is certain that the entire case will end up in court.
