Deteriorating Situation: Cracks Formed at Curine njive and Bistrički potok Sites, Visible Changes Occurring

(Patria) - Employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo and members of the protection and rescue services of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, during yesterday's visit to the Curine njive and Bistrički potok sites, determined that cracks have formed at the "Curine njive" site - Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad and Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo (Bostarići) due to stress and soil displacement along the slip surface, and they vary in size, shape, and orientation.

Visible changes in the shape of the cracks, i.e., an increase in their width, are occurring. In a part of the "Curine njive-playground" site, there is a constant inflow of water of stronger intensity, which creates partial flooding of the meadow, leading to the formation of ice due to temperature fluctuations, according to the regular report of the Federal Civil Protection Administration on the state of natural and other disasters in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the last 24 hours.

In the upper part of the deposited material/embankment, no water seepage or constant inflow of water into the landslide body was observed. No permanent water flows were noted in this endangered area. A temporary, unnamed stream has slightly cut into the central and lower parts of the slope/embankment, and in a part of its course, it disappears over a short distance of a few meters, infiltrating into the cracks of the landslide body.

Previous measurements of the amount of water appearing on the eastern flank of the deposited material/embankment measured 2.2 l/min (measurements performed by experts from "Rudarski Institut" d.d. Tuzla for the investor “Park ruža” d.o.o. Tuzla). The occurrence of water in the western part of the landslide, immediately below the embankment, cannot be precisely determined. This water penetrates the landslide body and weakens the soil's resistance characteristics along the slip surface (it is assumed to originate from underground catchments that are under pressure from the earth and construction material from the embankment).

In the area below the "Curine njive-playground" site (part of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo), the falling of several new trees is visible, as well as soil erosion and changes in the shape of previously formed cracks, i.e., an increase in their width.

During a visit to the "Knjeginjac" site - Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo determined that no new quantities of earth and stone material are being deposited at this site, nor are any construction works being carried out.

It was also determined that in the earlier period, the Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad installed some metal poles and protective fencing aimed at preventing the potential deposition of new quantities of earth and stone material. No new deposits of construction or other materials are visible at the landfill near the construction site "Trebević Hills".

At the Bistrički potok site - Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo (Boguševac) and Municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, a site visit revealed that the Bistrički potok stream bed is still partially filled with material from the landfill, fallen trees, and previously cut trees.

No new collapses of material from the landfill in the form of earth-stone material and trees were observed, nor was any removal of previously deposited earth-stone material and trees observed. Due to snowfall, it is not possible to determine the exact condition of the Bistrički potok stream bed.

Acting on the Order of the Civil Protection Headquarters of Sarajevo Canton regarding the evacuation of the population from the endangered area of the Municipality of Stari Grad, starting from November 1, 2024, employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo regularly patrol residential buildings and citizens in the streets Bostarići, Ablakovina, and Ablakovina čikma.

In the Zenica-Doboj Canton, where a state of natural disaster has been declared in part of the territory of the Maglaj municipality caused by a landslide (Mladoševica settlement, MZ Novi Šeher), it has been determined that the landslide is still active.

The Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters of Maglaj regularly monitors the situation on the ground, communicates with the population and higher levels of government, according to the FUCZ report.
