Worsening Situation at Curine Njive Fields: Water Creates Flooded Meadow

The Municipal Civil Protection Staff of Stari Grad organized a 24-hour terrain observation in landslide-prone areas, specifically Curine Njive, Knjeginjac, and Bistrički Potok, aiming for early warning of the endangered population and their potential evacuation.

Upon inspecting the site on Friday, it was observed that cracks had formed due to stress and soil displacement along the slip plane, varying in size, shape, and orientation. Visible changes in the shape of the cracks, such as increased width and length, are occurring.

In the part of the "Curine Njive-playground" locality, there is a constant inflow of water of stronger intensity, creating a partially flooded meadow. The presence of water in the western part of the landslide, directly below the embankment, cannot be precisely determined. This water penetrates the landslide body and weakens the soil's resistance characteristics along the slip plane (it is assumed to originate from underground sources under pressure from the earth or construction material from the embankment).

In the area below the "Curine Njive-playground" locality (part of the Stari Grad Sarajevo municipality), there is a visible change in the shape of previously formed cracks, with a significant increase in width and length, the appearance of new cracks, and the crumbling of soil at the site of previous cracks, as well as the crumbling of soil in the wooded area towards the first residential buildings located in the Stari Grad Sarajevo municipality (Ablakovina Street).

Due to rainfall in the past 24 hours, the ground remains waterlogged, negatively impacting soil sliding processes. Waterlogging can further destabilize the soil, reducing its strength and increasing the risk of landslides.

At the site in question, a 24-hour terrain observation is being conducted by employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, as well as the protection and rescue services of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, in order to provide early warning to the endangered population and their evacuation, as well as to alert the Operational Center of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, the Municipal Civil Protection Staff of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, the protection and rescue services of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, and the Operational Center of the Cantonal Civil Protection Administration of Sarajevo Canton.

Upon visiting the "Knjeginjac" locality, municipality of Istočni Stari Grad, on Friday, employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality determined that no new quantities of earth and stone material are being deposited at the site, nor are any construction works being carried out.

At the site in question, a 24-hour terrain observation is being conducted by employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, and information is being forwarded to the duty Operational Center.

The bed of the Bistrički Potok remains partially filled with material from the landfill, fallen trees, and previously cut trees. No new collapses of earth-stone material and trees from the landfill have been observed, nor has any removal of previously deposited earth-stone material and trees been noted.

Due to rainfall in the past 24 hours, the amount of water in the Bistrički Potok riverbed has increased.

At the site in question, a 24-hour terrain observation is being conducted by employees of the Civil Protection Service of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality, and information is being forwarded to the duty Operational Center, according to the FUCZ report.
