Increasingly shocking UN data: ISIL attracts foreign fighters with sex slaves

UN officials have been working on an action plan to combat the abuse of girls abducted by ISIL members, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

The UN has described this as „a war waged on women's bodies“.

The UN Secretary-General's Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Zainab Bangura, told British media that girls are being sold for as little as a pack of cigarettes to terrorists in Iraq and Syria.

She visited Iraq and Syria in April this year, and since then the fight against sexual violence perpetrated by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has been ongoing.

Bangura spoke with women and girls who had escaped captivity by ISIL, but precise data on the number of captured women is still unavailable.

- They constantly have new girls for whom they pay several hundred or thousand dollars. They lock them in groups of 100, strip them naked and wash them. Then they force them to stand in front of a group of terrorists so they can choose the one that is worth it – Bangura reveals shocking data.

Bangura also recounted the testimony of a 15-year-old girl whom a 50-year-old terrorist asked what she wanted, showing her a pistol and a stick.

- She said she wanted the pistol, and he told her „I didn't buy you to kill yourself“ after which he raped her – says Bangura, who stated that the abduction of girls and young women has become a strategy of ISIL because in this way they attract foreign fighters by offering them girls they can marry.
- Foreign fighters are the backbone of ISIL's battles.

According to the UN report, fighters from 100 countries have joined ISIL. Bangura also stated that ISIL wants to „build a society that maintains the 13th century“.
