All elementary and high schools in Stari Grad will have video surveillance, prioritizing student safety

The Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo is introducing video surveillance in 10 schools and a total of 15 facilities, which will increase the safety of children, as well as the facilities themselves, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Video surveillance will enable timely reaction of police officers in case of need, as all locations where video surveillance is installed will be connected to the Stari Grad Police Station in Logavina Street, where 24-hour monitoring is carried out.

The Mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, stated that this is the first municipality in the Sarajevo Canton to cover all elementary and high schools with video surveillance.

- In this phase, between 90 and 100 cameras will be installed, not counting the existing cameras we currently have in the old town core, which puts us far ahead of other municipalities, at least in the Sarajevo Canton. The entire project is being carried out by the agency Securitas BH. In this way, we will reduce undesirable situations in and around our schools - said Hadžibajrić.

30,000 KM have been allocated for this project, and the company Securitas BH will install cameras in one school free of charge.

The commander of the Stari Grad Police Station, Safet Gagula, stated that video recordings will be stored for up to 30 days and that the physical presence of police officers will not be reduced, but it will further contribute to student safety.

Sven Badurina, project manager for technical security at the agency Securitas BH, said that they entered this project as a socially responsible company.

- The installed equipment is the latest technological equipment with HD resolution and infrared lighting that can record even during the night without lighting. High quality of recordings, better overview of recordings, which will enable the police to better detect a situation - said Badurina.

Kerim Fejzagić, principal of Elementary School "Šejh Muhamed ef. Hadžijamaković", expressed gratitude to the municipal mayor, stating that student safety will be increased in this way. The principals of elementary and high schools emphasized that the video surveillance installation project was proposed for preventive reasons.

Several parents who attended the press conference at the Municipality of Stari Grad emphasized that this project was initiated at their request to increase the safety of students both in schools and in their immediate vicinity.

The municipality has begun the implementation of the video surveillance project in ten schools in its area: "Edhem Mulabdić" (three facilities), "Mula Mustafa Bašeskija" (two facilities), "Šejh Muhamed ef. Hadžijamaković", "Hamdija Kreševljaković", "Vrhbosna", "Saburina", and the Mjedenica Institute, as well as the high schools: High School for Textiles, Leather and Design Sarajevo, High School of Agriculture, Food, Veterinary and Service Activities Sarajevo, and the Music High School.
