Fewer and fewer students in BiH

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Council of Ministers of BiH adopted the Information of the Ministry of Civil Affairs on statistical indicators in preschool, primary, secondary and higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2019. In the 2018/2019 school year, 28,511 children were enrolled in 359 preschool institutions (202 public and 157 private), including 500 with special needs. Compared to the previous school year, the number of preschool institutions increased by 8.1%, and the number of children using preschool institutions increased by 10.1%. Due to capacity limitations, 3,531 children were not admitted to preschool institutions in the 2018/19 school year. Ensuring access and increasing coverage of preschool education remain the most significant priorities in this area.

In the 2018/19 school year, 280,018 students were enrolled in 1,803 primary schools. In the same school year, 117,475 students were enrolled in 311 secondary schools, which is 6,673 students or 5.4% less than in the previous school year. The largest number of students opted for technical schools. In the 2018/19 academic year, 87,696 students were enrolled in the first cycle of higher education, including integrated studies, in the winter semester, which is about six thousand students less than in the previous academic year. Among the students were 11,744 graduates. In the same period, 12,083 students were enrolled in postgraduate, master's, and specialist studies, while 981 students were enrolled in doctoral studies. In the five-year period, there has been a decrease in the number of students by more than 21 thousand.
