All the scandals that have been linked to Bandić's name for years

As Croatian media report, scandal after scandal has marked the political career of Milan Bandić, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

Controversial deals awarded to godfathers, exchanges of city land to the detriment of the city, as well as deals involving bus shelters were mentioned. It was also speculated earlier that the State Attorney's Office was conducting investigations. However, the mayor of Zagreb always responded: 'The same applies to everything in this country - let the rule of law function'.

An investigation was also launched due to suspicions of illegal construction of Zagreb's fountains.

14 years ago, Bandić took over Zagreb. After the drunk driving scandal, he resigned. In 2005 and 2009 - he returned to the helm of the metropolis. Due to his decision to enter the presidential race, he broke ties with the SDP.

'I will work like a horse,' he stated.

Zoran Milanović, to whom he had guaranteed victory in the city, expelled him from the party. However, he did not make it to Pantovčak. He was defeated by the incumbent president Ivo Josipović.

For all the bad financial moves in the city where debts were piling up - he blamed the SDP, the party from which he had governed the city for years. And to accusations of illegal deals - he responded with quips.

'And what, should Bandić, like Batman, walk around 24 hours a day with two pistols and two rifles watching who does what in the city? Well, you remember that I drank water with you, I swelled up like a frog convincing you that the water was safe and that the Sava flows under the Savski Bridge,' he said.

The Maksimir Stadium, into which millions of euros 'disappeared' over the years, was not completed. The city did not get the waste incineration plant he had long announced. And the recent project of renovating Mesnička Street drew public criticism.

What exactly he is being charged with now will only be revealed later.
