Every day for Zahid and his six children is a struggle for bare survival

Zahid Hepić from the Cazin local community of Stijena is a single father of six minor children. They live in nearly impossible conditions, with no income. His only income was a disability benefit of 50 KM, but even that was taken away after a review, reports the Patria news agency.

Two girls are in the fifth grade, and one is in the second. They walk 2.5 kilometers to school every day, although, as Zahid points out, some had promised to provide transportation for the children and food at school, but they did not.

One of the girls is also ill and should go to Bihać for surgery, but they have no health insurance nor the money needed for the operation.

-I went to the landfill to collect plastic, but it is no longer being bought. I collect tin, but it is 11 feninga, so imagine how much I need to feed the children. They won't let me connect electricity, and they also want to cut off my water because the certificates for exemption from water charges are supposedly invalid, so I have a water debt of 500 KM, says this single father.

Winter is coming, and Zahid currently has no way to earn money through work to cover bus tickets for the children, food during their stay at school, firewood, and other necessary items for minimal living conditions.
