Sušić: BiH is valued more everywhere than at home

Head coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team Safet Sušić, who is in this role until midnight tonight, was a guest on Radio Otvorena mreža where he said he still does not know whether he will stay as head coach of BiH. Looking from this perspective, the popular Pape said that we did not disgrace ourselves in Brazil, but that we could have done more.

- I have already said that we lacked a bit more luck. The championship started very badly for us, because as soon as you see that you score an own goal, you see that you have no luck. Another thing is that many players, especially key ones, did not perform at the level we are used to seeing them. Muhamed Bešić, Miralem Pjanić and Asmir Begović were excellent and there is nothing to reproach them for, the others had to do a bit more, then there would be no talk about refereeing mistakes – said Sušić.

He further adds that he regrets that there is no advanced technology in football that would help referees determine whether a goal was legitimate. Regarding the situation with Nigeria when Edin Džeko's clear goal was disallowed, Sušić says:

- Not everyone can referee. I see no reason why technology should not be introduced. I like American basketball and why wouldn't that be done in football. I think that in the match with Nigeria, the assistant referee played a bigger role than the main referee. I do not believe there was any intention, because everyone who makes a deliberate mistake leaves and no longer officiates at major competitions – added Sušić, adding that currently nothing is being done on the negotiations between him and the Football Association.

- Nothing is happening, we left a few days to pass so that everyone could rest from the trip and we will probably meet in the coming days – said Sušić.

Sušić did not pay much attention to harsh journalistic criticism, and concluded that BiH is valued more everywhere than at home.

- I would not dwell on that. I only know that we have been praised much more and respected much more than here at home. I have read a lot of foreign media and have friends in Turkey, France, and everyone praised our game, which was open and without calculations. We lacked a bit of luck and that goal, and that is why I did not understand the criticism. Even now, „Avaz“ is leading some campaign, maybe they are tired of this coach. I would not want to comment on that. That does not interest me, I am satisfied with the happiness of ordinary people. I am not very excited about what some journalist wrote – added Sušić.

Pape also diplomatically answered the question of whether some players should be thanked for their cooperation,

- You should always count on players who will be needed, that is the answer to that question. It is best that I say that – added Sušić.

Finally, he added that BiH has a team for a bright future and that it should certainly qualify for the European Championship, and later for the World Cup.

- As for Brazil and what was left there, I think Messi is number one. And if they reach the final, I will cheer for them – said Sušić, Patria reports.
