(Patria) - Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center Emir Suljagić sent a letter to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, Siniša Karan, expressing concern over statements that question the work of the judicial institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"We hereby express serious concern about your public statements that directly question the work of the judicial institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina and call for a reaction against them. Such statements are not only irresponsible but represent a direct attack on the legal order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and institutions established by the state," the letter states.
It is further reminded that the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center is an institution established by the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a clear mandate to preserve the memory of the genocide committed in 1995.
"Any attempt to dispute the status of state institutions or to incite any actions that would jeopardize its work, the safety of staff, visitors, and property, will be considered a direct violation of the law and an attack on the constitutional order of the state. We also warn you that any calls to disregard the decisions of judicial institutions, as well as the spread of intolerance and incitement to destabilization, are contrary to legal regulations and may lead to legal consequences. Any act of obstructing the work of the Memorial Center, directly or indirectly, including any security incidents, will be treated as a deliberate endangerment of peace and stability, for which you, as minister, will bear full legal responsibility, given that your statements in an official capacity have encouraged such actions," the letter reads.
It is emphasized that Karan is expected to act in accordance with the law and take all necessary measures to ensure that the rhetoric and actions under your supervision do not result in further destabilization and violation of the legal order.
"Otherwise, the Memorial Center will use all legal and institutional mechanisms, including international ones, to ensure accountability for any threat. The Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center remains committed to the rule of law and the protection of fundamental values of justice and peace, and expects institutions to act in accordance with their legal obligations," it concludes.
