Suljagić on Hungary's announcement to vote against the resolution: This is the result of right-wing views

(Patria) - Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center Emir Suljagić commented on Hungary's decision to vote against the resolution on Srebrenica in the UN General Assembly, which was announced today by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto in the company of the President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik.

Suljagić points out that Hungary's stance is worrying and cannot be ignored. He reminded that the resolution aims to honor the memory of thousands of victims of the genocide in Srebrenica.

"By voting against it, Hungary has joined the forces of denial and revisionism, undermining international efforts to recognize and learn from this tragedy. This decision is not an isolated incident, but a reflection of the long-standing right-wing views and policies of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Orbán's opposition to the Srebrenica resolution can be seen as part of a broader pattern of rejecting international consensus on human rights issues," Suljagić states.

He adds that Hungary's refusal to acknowledge the genocide sends a dangerous message that historical truths can be easily disregarded for the sake of politics.

Speaking about the condemnation of Hungary's vote, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of remembering and honoring the victims of Srebrenica.

"Acknowledging the genocide is a key step towards ensuring that such horrors never happen again. Hungary's decision is a stark reminder of the ongoing need to firmly oppose denial and the political forces that sustain it," Suljagić concludes.
