Subašić at UN: Support the Srebrenica Resolution, it is needed by us, Serbia and all normal people

(Patria) - President of the Association Movement "Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves" Munira Subašić addressed the UN General Assembly in New York today, on which occasion she called for the adoption of the Srebrenica Resolution.

In her moving speech, Subašić pointed out that the VRS (Army of Republika Srpska) killed more than 10,000 people in eight days, and that she herself lost 22 close family members in the Srebrenica genocide, including her younger son and husband, reports Faktor.ba.

- I am the president of an association that has been fighting for the truth and seeking justice for 20 years. I survived the genocide in which 22 members of my immediate family were killed, including my youngest son and husband.

In the Srebrenica genocide, 10,701 people were killed. They killed newborn babies, the elderly, women. They killed 1,042 minors, and all this in eight days, simply because they were Muslims.

We could not believe that they could kill all of them, bury them in large mass graves. We thought the people were alive and waited, hoping they would come.

When Senator Bob Dole came, he told us they were all dead - said Subašić, adding that upon learning this, their goal was to find the remains of their children and bring the perpetrators to justice.

- After the fall of Srebrenica, about 5,500 children were left who had lost one or both parents in the genocide. They watched as their fathers were killed or their mothers and sisters raped, and their brothers led to death.

Many children do not know what their fathers looked like because they were born after they were killed. We mothers raised these children without hatred.

Our children are now doctors, engineers, professors, they speak several foreign languages. I send a message to all mothers of the world to learn from us - Subašić emphasized.

She recalls that in 2013 she found two bones of her younger son.

- At first I was happy to have found them, that I would have a marker that he lived and a tombstone that would say when he was born and when he was killed in Srebrenica. Since then, I go to bed and wake up with sorrow.

I would ask all people who can cast a vote for the Srebrenica Resolution to pass. It is needed by us, Serbia and all normal people.

When the Holocaust is commemorated on January 27, and the genocide in Africa on April 27, why shouldn't we also commemorate the Srebrenica genocide on July 11. I ask you to be on the side of justice, of good. Those who do not give their vote for the Srebrenica Resolution do not belong to humanity - Subašić said.
