Subašić at conference in Srebrenica: Mothers laid the foundation for proving genocide

(Patria) - A conference titled "Justice and Remembrance: Reflections on the Convicting Verdict against Radislav Krstić" is being held today at the Cultural Center in Srebrenica.

Namely, as explained, this conference aims to bring together students, academics, researchers, and all those interested in the topics of justice, remembrance, and history, to jointly exchange ideas and reflections on the important convicting verdict against Radislav Krstić.

Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, Emir Suljagić, opened the conference.

“We are here today in our own story and have no intention of negotiating our story, we have no intention of seeking permission or allowing anyone to define the boundaries of our experience,” stated Director Suljagić in his speech.

As stated on the official X account of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, the first panel focuses on the testimonies of genocide survivors in Srebrenica. Survivors shared their experiences and how they perceived justice through the verdict against Radislav Krstić. The panel aims to empower the voices of survivors and highlight the importance of their stories in the process of remembrance.

Fahrudin Muminović was less than seven years old when he was taken to be executed along with his father.

“My father told me to hide under the bed, but they found us and took us out. They tied white scarves around our eyes so we wouldn't see where they were taking us…”.

Fahrudin Muminović's testimony deeply affected everyone present at the conference “Justice and Remembrance: Reflections on the Convicting Verdict against Radislav Krstić”.

“Mothers laid the foundation for proving genocide. The perseverance and strength of the mothers of Srebrenica are immeasurable,” stated Munira Subašić, president of the Association Movement of Mothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa.

The panel “The Impact of the Verdict against Radislav Krstić on Justice and Reconciliation” explores how the verdict has influenced justice and the process of reconciliation in post-conflict societies.

In addition to representatives of mothers' associations and survivors, students from the Faculties of Law in Sarajevo, Tuzla, Vitez, and Zenica are attending the conference.
