Subašić: The Netherlands is guilty of genocide and we will not give up until they admit it for all victims!

A Dutch court has found its country responsible for participation in genocide and the deaths of more than 2,000 people, Munira Subašić, president of the Association of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, told the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Today, the District Court in The Hague partially granted the lawsuit filed by 8,000 Srebrenica survivors against the Netherlands. However, Subašić says they will not give up until the Netherlands' responsibility for the deaths of everyone in the United Nations protected zone is confirmed.

- This is a historic verdict. We hope that the public in Bosnia and Herzegovina will understand its significance and not diminish it, even though the Court has only partially accepted responsibility now. We remain obligated to continue this and demand that responsibility be accepted for all victims, not just those who managed to enter the base – says Subašić.

According to her, even though the court did not accept it now, the Netherlands is guilty of genocide against those who did not enter the United Nations base.

- Well, the UN directed them to go into the woods. People did not trust the Dutch soldiers, and it turned out there were reasons for that. We will not give up until we prove it for all victims of genocide. That is our priority, and our lawyers will file an appeal – says Subašić, who is in The Hague.

It is difficult, she points out, for the Dutch public to accept and explain to the court that their country participated in genocide, which is why this verdict is extremely important.

- This is a success for the mothers of Srebrenica. Thanks also to the lawyers who are conducting this process free of charge – Subašić told NAP.
