Stup this morning: Construction workers are not sufficiently protected and paid

Construction workers were almost forgotten until the tragic deaths of two workers from Famus Gradnja from Tešanj. At the order of the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office, the director of the company Famus gradnja 3, Kemal Karahmet, technical director Miralem Jahić, and site manager Dženan Hadžem were taken into custody, writes the Patria news agency.

Today they should also be questioned for the criminal offense of "Serious criminal offense against the safety of people and property under Article 328, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in connection with the criminal offense of improper and unprofessional execution of construction works under Article 326, paragraph 1."

This morning, a photograph from the Sarajevo neighborhood of Stup once again shows the value and courage of all construction workers, who are not paid what they are worth. Two diligent workers are literally walking on the crane structure at a great height, which was captured by the camera.

These people work from dawn to dusk. They say mining work is hard, but I would say this is also a form of mining at heights in the rugged terrain beneath the sky – says a passerby near the accident that occurred at Marijin dvor.

It is certain that greater occupational safety is needed, because even the smallest mistake leads these people to death, but unfortunately little attention is paid to this. And only when a tragic case occurs do the „sleeping“ inspections, which actually issue construction permits, wake up.

- No one asks us anything. We have to earn our bread, and only we know how hard it is. I don't know why the union never reacts. This is not the first accident; there have been others. But now no one can bring back lives - says Mirsad H., a long-time construction worker.
