(Patria) - "This meeting is an indicator of the United Kingdom's commitment to Bosnia and Herzegovina, its capital, and the entire region," said Mayor Benjamina Karić, hosting Stuart Peach today with the President of the City Council Jasmin Ademović.
Peach is the British Prime Minister's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, and he sees the meeting with Mayor Karić as an opportunity to discuss constructive and very current topics.
The interlocutors emphasized the importance of the City's support and timely, institutional reaction, led by the Mayor, when it comes to violence against women, as well as the contribution to the work of safe houses throughout BiH.
"The unfortunate events we are witnessing lately, the victims of violence whose numbers are unfortunately growing day by day, require the contribution of all levels of government. The City Administration was among the first to raise its voice and allocate significant financial resources to strengthen the work of safe houses," said Karić.
They also touched upon the campaign "16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence" implemented by UN Women BiH, which was also supported by the City of Sarajevo.
Envoy Peach emphasized that the UK continues to provide support to the Western Balkan countries, and that a productive relationship with the City Administration is one of the leading milestones towards the realization of concrete projects and the improvement of the quality of life of BiH citizens.
