Experts warn: No one will be allowed to buy used cars anymore

The used car market in Bosnia and Herzegovina could experience a total collapse after the floods that hit BiH, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Citizens looking for used vehicles to buy are now afraid that the vehicles may have come from flooded areas. Without a guarantee that the vehicle is functional and has not been submerged, they are not reaching for their wallets.

Car expert from ASA's service in Sarajevo, Muvedet Žutić, tells NAP that vehicles that were submerged have in most cases suffered major damage, the repair of which requires a lot of time and expertise. If the repair is not done properly, the car will have consequences.

- Regarding newer vehicles that were submerged, it is impossible for there not to be major consequences, at least on the electronics. What I saw in the photos, where the water reached the steering wheel, that is a big problem. That vehicle must be put back on the line and everything disassembled, taken apart... These are huge bundles of wiring, and it's not simple at all - says Žutić.

In newer vehicles, he says, most of the electronics are located under the carpet on the floor. If water has penetrated that area, the so-called "connectors" have become wet, which can cause major problems with the car.

- Such vehicles can be made operational, but if these connectors do not dry and are not cleaned properly, corrosion and disintegration of the wiring will occur after some time - Žutić explained to Patria. He adds that engine problems due to floods are a special type of problem, also complex.

In older vehicles, like second-generation Golfs, Žutić says, the faults are simpler. They most often relate to engine failures, but even with them, the consequences, if the vehicles were submerged, can be catastrophic, says Žutić for Patria.
