Expert Meeting: Increase Oilseed Crop Cultivation

BRČKO, (Patria) - Organized by the Institute for Agricultural Development and Improvement – IRUP Brčko and the company BIMAL, the Oilseed Day was held on the topic "Cultivating Oilseeds to Preserve Crop Rotation". This event brought together experts, representatives of relevant institutions, and agricultural producers to exchange experiences and discuss all aspects of production, especially the problem of monoculture prevalent in our country. 

"Agriculture is a complex field that requires close cooperation and teamwork between institutions and agricultural producers, and without satisfied domestic farmers, there is no production independent of imports, and thus no strengthening of the local market," said Miroslav Bojić, Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management of Republika Srpska.

BIMAL company understands its responsibility in familiarizing producers with market demands and putting land into functional production, which is why, together with the Institute for Agricultural Development and Improvement - IRUP Brčko, it strives to motivate agricultural producers for the oilseed production process.

"Sunflower cultivation is increasing year by year, and it is good that we collectively recognize the opportunity that oilseed production as agricultural crops offers for soil quality, as well as for domestic production," said Ševal Suljkanović, Executive Director for Economic Affairs at BIMAL company. 

The importance of preserving crop rotation and the knowledge of its application result in good crops and high yields. The participants of the Oilseed Day explained the significance of oilseeds in all of this, showing particular interest in the possibilities of increasing cultivated areas and the desire to make their products as competitive as possible. 

"Of course, the relationship between invested funds and the profit we achieve for our yields is very important, but we are aware that agriculture is changing and that market demand for crops that are not so typical for our region is significant. We are also increasingly aware that growing crops in monoculture is our weakness, so only with quality land can we obtain a quality product that we can then sell well," said Azra Imsirović from the Agricultural Cooperative Poljopromet Čelić. 

The Oilseed Day was attended by representatives of the Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of Republika Srpska, entity institutes for agriculture and plant production, the Department for Agriculture of the Government of Brčko District, protection companies, as well as representatives of the banking and insurance sectors and numerous agricultural producers and representatives of municipalities.
