Horror in Dubrovnik maternity ward: Stillborn baby burned as waste

The case of a stillborn baby, who was burned by the Dubrovnik hospital and then treated as waste, has shocked part of the public. The case is a year and a half old, and the parents of the unfortunate baby who died during childbirth have decided to sue the Dubrovnik hospital, reports the Patria News Agency.  

"All hospitals in Croatia clearly know what to do in case of death, as there are regulations for it. The dead body is kept in the pathology department for a certain period prescribed by the rulebook, and if no one claims it during that time, the body must be removed from pathology," said the director of the Dubrovnik hospital, Jerko Ferri Certić, explaining the procedure in an interview with Dubrovački dnevnik.

Namely, according to the regulation, claims the director, unclaimed bodies are treated similarly to regular waste. They are disposed of, or rather burned, in Zagreb. Apparently, the parents did not claim the body within the designated period, and the stillborn baby was disposed of as waste.

"This baby is not the only case of a dead body left in pathology longer than the prescribed time. What should we do with dead bodies that are not claimed within the deadline, other than cremate them?" claims Doctor Ferri, adding that the procedure is terrible but that's how it is.

The parents claim that the Dubrovnik hospital is wrong and that it is not true that they did not claim the body within the prescribed period. The entire case has ended up in court.
