Hundreds of students in front of the KS Government: We will not be silent anymore, our fathers did not fight for this

(Patria) - Several hundred students accommodated in the dormitories of JU Student Center Sarajevo, as well as employees of this institution, gathered in front of the Sarajevo Canton Government building.

Students from the Nedžarići and Bjelave dormitories announced today that they will no longer be silent, and read out their demands for improving living conditions in the dormitories under the windows of the KS Government, accompanied by shouts of "Come out".

Students demand that the KS Government respect the founding act and the rights and obligations towards JU Student Center, and that the boiler room be renovated and the heating issue in the Bjelave and Nedžarići dormitories be resolved.

Student representative Aldin Mešan read out the demands. He noted that the last straw was the night of December 4th when gas was leaking in the boiler room.

"Our warnings have been ignored for decades and we have been brought to a critical point where our health is endangered. All we have received are concerned looks and press releases. We came to Sarajevo to return home as doctors, engineers, doctors. We demand the urgent appointment of the management and leadership structures of JU Student Center, the Supervisory Board, the Management Board, and the Director," one of the demands stated.

Student representatives said that their fathers did not fight for what the students have today.

"Our fathers did not give up when it was hardest when this country was being created. Neither will we," Mešan said, thanking everyone for their support.

The Independent Trade Unions of Bosnia and Herzegovina supported the students. The President of SSS BiH, Samir Kurtović, said that it is unacceptable for workers to have delayed salaries.

"Students must be at a high level. We call on the Government to make decisions and resolve these issues. The budget is the budget, but students must be the highest priority for the KS Government. The next protest will be larger than this one. The KS Government must understand these demands," Kurtović said.
