Hundreds of Sarajevo Schoolchildren Visit the Potočari Memorial Center

(Patria) - Eleven buses with around 600 final-year students from nine elementary schools in Novo Sarajevo, accompanied by principals and teaching staff, attended a History Class in Srebrenica.

For most of them, this was their first visit to this Bosnian town where, on July 11, 1995, genocide was committed against the Bosniaks who lived in Srebrenica and its surroundings.

The 9th-grade students were greeted during their visit to Potočari by the Deputy Chairman of the Novo Sarajevo Municipal Council, Samir Suljević, who, together with councilors Bahrudin Delić and Nedim Salihagić, attended the History Class.

The children toured the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, including the memorial and the cemetery for the killed Bosniaks, where a half-hour History Class was held. After that, they visited the Battery Factory, which housed the UN base during the war, and viewed the "Steps" exhibition.

The children were able to see the harrowing scenes of the suffering of Bosniaks in Srebrenica, as well as the testimonies of survivors, in a film shown at the end of this visit.

Many went into the film with one energy and came out with a completely different one, which confirmed that children today are indeed sensitive to the suffering of others - restoring hope for a better tomorrow.

The children from Sarajevo were joined by students from the Nova Kasaba Educational Center, a branch school of the "Malta" Elementary School.
