Serious snowfall, low temperatures, wind... are coming

(Patria) - New snowfall is expected in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the night between Sunday and Monday. Meteorologists are urging caution, as they state this is more serious snowfall compared to the previous days.

The Federal Hydrometeorological Institute of BiH has therefore issued a yellow warning for Monday, December 23rd.

"In lower altitudes, we expect up to 20 cm of new snow and a new snow cover on the night between Sunday and Monday, and up to 50 cm of new snow in the mountains. So it will be serious snowfall. Along with snow and snowfall, we expect low air temperatures and strong winds," says meteorologist Bakir Krajinović, adding that the snowfall will not be close to record values:

"For the month of December, about 80 cm of snow cover is a record for Sarajevo. What we expect is 20 cm. However, with low air temperatures and wind, and given that we have been spoiled this winter and haven't had enough snow, this snow will also be very serious. There is no need for fear or panic, but we must be cautious and aware of everything that is happening around us regarding weather conditions. Ice, snow cover on roads and sidewalks will further worsen the situation," concludes Krajinović.

KJKP Rad states that teams are on standby and that during snowfall, priority is given to cleaning main roads. Citizens are urged to exercise extra caution due to slippery sidewalks and potential falling icicles and snow from the roofs of residential buildings and trees.

In the coming days, air temperatures in Bosnia will range from -6 to -1 degrees Celsius, and in Herzegovina from -1 to 4 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature in Bosnia will not exceed 7 degrees Celsius, and in Herzegovina 9 degrees Celsius.
