March 1st brings a more expensive life: Government completely unprepared as it entered the voting and increase of excise duties

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Companies TDR d.o.o. Sarajevo and Fabrika duhana Sarajevo recently submitted to the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH new retail prices for cigarettes that will be applied from March 1, 2018. According to the submitted calculations of the new retail prices, cigarettes will mostly increase by 0.10 BAM per pack, while only a few types of cigarettes will increase by 0.20 BAM per pack.

Fear of other price increases prevails among citizens, and everything is already noticeably more expensive due to the new Law on Excise Duties, which has led to more expensive fuel.

The government was completely unprepared as it entered the voting and increase of excise duties, which caused fuel price increases greater than the amount of the last excise duties.

Abuses during these price increases, which citizens are suffering, are noticeable.

There are various pieces of information about earnings per liter of fuel ranging from 30 to 50 feninga, and some claim even more.

Therefore, the Parliament of BiH adopted the initiative of the Independent Bloc to determine the maximum amount of the margin for distributors of oil and oil derivatives.

This initiative requests the Council of Ministers and entity governments to check the amounts of wholesale and retail margins of distributors, and to legally determine them, with the aim of transferring part of the price increase, due to the introduction of additional excise duties, to the distributors and thus reduce price increases for end users, citizens who use fuel.

However, until this area is legally regulated, the prices of food and necessities for life will continue to rise.

Thus, citizens will receive a greeting card for Independence Day that will unfortunately worsen their standard of living.
